Carbondale Fire Responds to Small Airplane Crash Near Cattle Creek
Published Sep. 27, 2015Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District was paged to a field near County Road 154 for a report of an aircraft emergency. Upon arrival, the firefighters found a single engine Cessna plane that had crashed in the field near the old Sopris Restaurant. The plane was upside down in the field. Carbondale Fire Crew To Help with Oregon Wildfire
Published Aug. 13, 2015Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District has sent a brush truck and crew to assist at the Bendire Complex Fire near Vale, Oregon. On August 11, 2015, the United States Forest Services Dispatch requested assistance from Colorado crews, including one from Carbondale Fire, to respond to fires on in the Northwest of the United States. Where’s Your Hydrant?
Published Jul. 20, 2015After a wet spring, weeds have grown tall and could make it hard for firefighters to find fire hydrants during an emergency. Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District is asking residents to look for their nearest fire hydrant and remove any weeds around it so firefighters can easily gain access if needed. Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District suggests clearing at least three feet around the hydrant for easy access for firefighters. The simple act of cutting back weeds around a hydrant could make a difference. learn more » -
MEDIA RELEASE: Cattle Creek Area Wildfire
Published Jun. 24, 2015Carbondale, CO – A report of a wildfire sent crews from Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District to the Cattle Creek area this afternoon. There were multiple reports of lightning strikes in the area. A 50 foot by 50 foot fire was found burning in the pinion & juniper tree on Meadow View Lane, Glenwood Springs. Multiple vehicles and a fuel tank were within 100 feet of the fire when firefighters arrived. Firefighters extinguished the fire with water on the apparatus. Suppression efforts have focused on extinguishing the fire and digging a fire line. Crews were also needed to fall several trees in the fire perimeter. Carbondale Fire Offering Free Blood Pressure Checks
Published Jun. 23, 2015Carbondale, CO – Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) are offering free blood pressure checks. On Saturday, June 27 from 10 am until 2 pm, volunteer EMTs will be set up in the fire department’s mobile command trailer in the parking lot at City Market in Carbondale to offer free blood pressure readings. Both agencies have large areas that are at risk for a wildland-urban interface incident, including areas that are contiguous to our Districts. Master Plan Community Survey Coming Soon
Published May. 29, 2015Carbondale, CO – The Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District Master Plan community survey will be sent out soon. A scientifically generated random sampling of residents will receive one of 3,500 surveys. The surveys will be sent by our partner, RRC Associates in Denver. The survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete and can be completed on online or on paper and mailed back. There is also an option to complete the survey online in Spanish. Carbondale Fire Responds to Structure Fire
Published Apr. 12, 2015Carbondale, CO Around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, 2015, Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District responded to 0524 Highway 133, for a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, the firefighters found a commercial business complex with heavy smoke coming from the roof of the building. Carbondale Fire responded with a fire engine, ladder truck, an ambulance and 16 personnel to this fire. Firefighters laddered the building to gain access to the roof. The fire was found to be burning in the roof between two units in the building. Firefighters were able to quickly get the fire under control and stop the fire spread. Master Plan Neighborhood Meeting Schedule
Published Mar. 12, 2015The Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District Master Plan process has been launched by the Board of Directors. One of the primary tasks of the Master Plan is to seek input from the public. The consultant team has scheduled 13 neighborhood meetings to gather information from the residents of the District. Carbondale Fire Announces Master Plan Study Consultants
Published Jan. 30, 2015Carbondale, CO The Board of Directors of the Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District is pleased to announce the selection of Almont Associates of Port Orange, FL and Mark Chain Consulting, LLC, working with Leslie Lamont of Lamont Planning Services of Carbondale, CO as co-consultants for the development of the District’s Master Plan Study. The District expects to have final contracts in place with both firms for final approval by the Board of Directors by the end of February. Almont Associates bid of $33,960 generally includes an analysis of the fire districts current operations including comparisons with the Commission on Fire Accreditation International standards and National Fire Protection Association codes and standards. Almont Associates will provide recommendations on future services and the organizational structure of the District. learn more » -

Carbondale Fire Responds to Propane Delivery Truck on Fire
Published Jan. 5, 2015Carbondale, CO At 9:44 p.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2015, Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District was paged for a report of a structure fire at Propane Services, 1058 County Road 100, Carbondale. While en-route, dispatch reported that a propane delivery truck was on fire. The first responding fire engine was on scene in 15 minutes. When the first responding engine arrived on scene, they found the cab of a propane truck fully involved in fire, with flames reaching the propane tank. The fire was extinguished and the propane tank cooled before it had a chance to activate the pressure relief valve or catch on fire. learn more »
