Carbondale Fire Receives Grant from Garfield County Federal Mineral Lease District

Carbondale, Colo. – Garfield County Federal Mineral Lease District chose Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District as a recipient for their 2015 Fall Grant Cycle.

Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District applied for the grant to purchase fire hose, a fire hose tester and portatank liners, after a large amount of fire hose failed during the recent annual in-house fire hose testing period.  The District’s portatank liners leak and the fire hose tester is nearing the end of its service life. Due to the reduction in property values over the past few years, the District’s property tax revenues have decreased by over 40%.  As a result, the District was unable to purchase new hose or other firefighting equipment.

“Thanks to this funding we are able to replace fire hose and portatank liners that are no longer serviceable,” Carbondale Fire Chief Ron Leach said.

The grant award is $23,177 and does not require matching funds from Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District.
