Carbondale, Colo. – At 1:46 p.m. today, Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District was paged to 6578 Highway 82, for a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, the firefighters found a home fully engulfed in flames.
Due to gusty winds, the fire in the first home spread, causing a brush fire and catching the interior and exterior of a second home on fire. Shortly after, a report of a fire at a third home was received. The roof was on fire, but it is not believed to have spread inside the home. The first structure is believed to be a total loss.
Carbondale Fire Chief Ron Leach said, “The firefighters on scene have their hands full right now, but they are making good progress. The brush fire has been contained, the fire in the second structure has been knocked down, and the fire in the roof of the third home has been stopped.”
Mutual aid from Snowmass Fire District, Basalt Fire District, Glenwood Springs Fire Department and Colorado River Fire are on scene. The Garfield County Sheriff’s Department and Pitkin County GIS Department also responded to this incident.
No further information is available at this time, as firefighters are still on scene and expect to be for some time. There have been no reported injuries and no loss estimate at this time. The cause of the initial structure fire is unknown.
